Help the children follow the steps below to create their own bug hat. Or, simply tie the headbands on your little love-bug guests as they arrive.
Here's what you need:
- Craft Glue Dots®
- Glue Lines®
- Black pipe cleaners
- Elastic band or ribbon
- Yellow, red and black cardstock
- Black glitter
- Googly eyes
- Scissors
- Single Hole Punch
- White Out pen or white marker
Here's what you do:
- Cut yellow and red paper in half the long way making two 4.25" x 11" pieces.
- Cut two 4-5 in circles out of the black paper (I traced a bowl to get the prefect size). Cut both circles in half.
- Place Glue Lines around the edges of the black half circle and adhere to the center of the bottom of the yellow and red pieces, creating the face.
- Use Craft Glue Dots to adhere googly eyes to the face.
- Use a hole punch to punch 4 holes on each stripe - punch 2 holes centered directly above the face and one in the center of the end of each strip.
- On the red paper randomly place Craft Glue Dots for spots, on the yellow paper use Glue Lines for stripes.
- Sprinkle glitter over Glue Dots and Glue Lines. Gently press the glitter into the adhesive to make sure it's stuck and wipe away excess glitter.
- Use white out pen or a white marker to draw the smile.
- Thread a pipe cleaner through the two holes above the face and wrap ends around finger or pencil to give your bug antennae's a spiral effect.
- Thread ribbon or an elastic band through the ends and tie a knot on the inside of the hat. Or, you can use another pipe cleaner to connect the two sides of the hat together. This will help you adjust the size to fit the child's head.
