Add a bit of spring to your Easter celebrations this year with a handmade floral topiary. The colorful egg shape topper will have your hopping for joy and put a little spring in your step.

Here's what you need:

Here's what you do:

  1. Wrap glitter washi tape around the 9 inch wood dowel until covered. Push one end of the dowel into the wider end of the Styrofoam egg, about 2-3 inches.
  2. Prime the terracotta pot by applying white gesso with a sponge or flat brush. This will ensure even coverage of your acrylic paint and it will cut down on the number of layers you will need to paint to get a true color. Be sure to prime about 2 inches down on the inside of the pot as well.
  3. When the gesso is dry, apply 2 coats of acrylic paint from Americana in Lemon Zest. Be sure to paint about 2 inches down on the inside of the pot as well. Let dry between coats.
  4. While your paint is drying, use Craft Glue Dots and Pop Up Glue Dots to cover the Styrofoam egg with paper flowers. Start at the bottom with larger flowers and adhere smaller flowers as you move up to the top. Remember to overlap petals as you move up the egg to cover any bare spots. For added interest, layer small flowers directly on top of the large flowers.
  5. Continue to embellish the topiary top by adding flat backed pearls and rhinestones. Tip: Adhere small embellishments with Mini Glue Dots for a strong, secure bond.
  6. Cut a 1/2 inch wide strip from the white burlap. Use 1” Glue Lines to apply it around the rim of the painted terracotta pot. Trim excess so that the ends meet neatly in the back of the pot.
  7. Using a serrated knife, cut the floral foam down to form a shape that will snugly fit inside the pot.
  8. Press the foam into the pot and then press the dowel into the floral foam about 2 -3 inches.
  9. Add Spanish moss around the top of the pot to cover the foam.
  10. Add other embellishment as desired such as buttons, a bow made from ribbon, other rhinestones, and a topper for the egg topiary.

This egg shaped topiary will bring a breath of fresh air to your home décor with its Spring colors, sparkly rhinestones, and colorful flowers!
