Alecia from Chicken Scratch NY is on our blog with a beautiful gold gilded ornament made with Glue Dots.
Time: 10 Minutes per bulb
Level: Beginner
Size: 4” Round Ornament
Soft gold and sparking glass are a classy combo for holiday decorating, this project combines both using Glue Dots® for a gilded polka dot finish. The bright twinkling lights of your Christmas tree will bring out the best in these ornaments.
Here's what you need:
- XL Glue Dots®
- Mini Glue Dot®
- 4” Clear Glass Ornament
- Gold Flakes
- Red Bow
- Stiff Paint Brush (A stenciling brush works well)
- Plate
- Cotton rag
Here's what you do:
- Place a large pinch of gold flakes on a shallow plate.
- Apply an XL Glue Dots to the bulb, taking care not to fold or distort it.
- Gently press the adhesive into the gold flakes until the whole thing is covered.
- Use the paint brush to flake off the extra gold flakes, especially around the edges.
- Continue applying adhesive and gold until you’re happy with your pattern.
- Take the cotton rag and rub the excess gold of the bulb.
- Use a Mini Glue Dots to attach a bow near the top of the ornament.
- The gold flakes are messy so be sure to keeps the windows closed and the cats in another room. You could use sheets instead of flakes but you won’t get the same finish and I think a semi-gilded kitchen counter is worth it.
Merry Christmas,
~Alecia
