"Slap It" Flash Card Game for Kids

Is it too cold or rainy to go outside with the kids? Play the "Slap It" flash card game! It's a fun project that should help keep your kids entertained. All you need are a Removable Glue Dots, a spatula and flash cards. Designer Samantha shows you how the Slap It word game works.

Time: About 5 minutes to set-up
Level: Beginner

We found a fun way to use Removable Glue Dots with flash cards. Any flashcards will work. We are currently working on letters and sight words, so those are the flash cards you'll see in my photos and video. However, the sky is the limit...math flash cards, foreign language, numbers, colors...anything will work!

Here's what you need:

Here's what you do:

  1. You can play this with 1 child or multiple children. I set up a different set of flashcards per child.
  2. You will want to play this game on the floor. Kids seem to really love the slapping part of this game, and you'll want to be on a surface that can take some abuse.
  3. Place Removable Glue Dots on the back of a spatula.
  4. Place about 8 - 10 flashcards from your stack onto the floor in front of the child.
  5. Call out an item from one of the flashcards on the floor.
  6. The child needs to find the flashcard with that item (word, color, number, etc.) and "slap it" with the spatula. The card will stick to the Removable Glue Dots.
  7. The child shows the card to the adult for verification. The "used" flashcard is then moved to a completed pile and the vacant spot is filled with a new flashcard from the unused pile.
  8. Repeat until all of the flashcards are gone.

You may need to occasionally replace the Removable Glue Dots on the spatula as they may roll up into a little ball when the cards are removed from the spatula.

Here's a video of us playing the game:

I hope you have as much fun as we do!
