Inspiration and Project Ideas from Glue Dots®

Fabric Christmas Tree

I love the look of a clean and simple Christmas Card. Fabric trees on a clean cardstock background make for a uniquely textured Christmas card that has the added bonus of using up some of those fabric scraps in your stash.
MADE BY: SAMANTHA TAYLOR   |   TIME: 20 MINUTES
LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE   |  SIZE: 4 ¼” x 5 ½”

Supplies:

  • Craft Glue Dots®
  • Mini Glue Dots®
  • White Card Stock
  • Fabric Scraps (at least 2 different patterns)
  • Fabric Pencil (optional)
  • Fabric Scissors
  • Sewing Machine (or needle and thread)
  • Sequins

Directions:

  1. Cut card stock to 8 ½” x 5 ½” to create a card base. Fold in half.
  2. Cut a second piece of card stock to 4” x 5 ¼” for a card layer.

  3. Use a fabric pencil or a regular pencil to draw a triangle on the fabric. Use a sharp scissors to cut out the triangle to create a tree. My trees are about 1 ½” wide by 2” tall. Cut 3 trees for 1 card.

  4. Arrange trees on the 4” x 5 ¼” card layer.  Use just 1 Craft Glue Dot® in the center of each tree to attach each tree to the card layer. The Craft Glue Dot® will help the fabric tree stay in place while sewing it to the card.

  5. Sew around the edges of the trees with a sewing machine or use a needle and thread to hand stitch.

  6. Use Mini Glue Dots® to attach a sequin to the top of each tree.

  7. Use Craft Glue Dots® to attach the card layer to the card base.

Notes: Permanent Glue Squares® can be used in place of Craft Glue Dots®. Both styles work well on both paper and fabric.

Use Micro Glue Dots® in place of Mini Glue Dots® if your sequins are especially small.

Play around with different colored card stock based on your fabric choice. White and silver fabric would look especially pretty on navy blue card stock, and kraft card stock always looks pretty paired with fabric.
