I love seeing trends in crafting pop up. While honeycomb paper has been around forever, it’s enjoying a bit of a resurgence in popularity, especially for party décor. Lean into the trend with this fun honeycomb paper cake.
MADE BY: SAMANTHA TAYLOR | TIME: 30 MINUTES
LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE | 12” x 14”
Supplies:
- Craft Glue Dots®
- Glue Dots® Glue Lines
- Honeycomb Paper Pads in 3 different colors
- Card Stock
- Ruler
- Scissors
- Pencil
Directions:
- In color 1: Cut 2 pieces of honeycomb paper to 3 ½” x 5”. Make sure the glue end of the honeycomb paper is on the 3 ½” side. In color 2: cut 2 pieces of honeycomb paper to 3 ½” x 4”. Make sure the glue end of the honeycomb paper is on the 3 ½” side. In color 3: cut 2 pieces of honeycomb paper to 3 ½” x 3”. Make sure the glue end of the honeycomb paper is on the 3 ½” side.
- Use Craft Glue Dots to join both pieces of the 3 1/2” x 5” honeycomb paper together to form a large circle. Repeat with the 3 ½” x 4” honeycomb paper and 3 ½” x 3” honeycomb paper.
- Stack your honeycomb circles (cake layers) on top of each other. Secure layers in place with Craft Glue Dots®.
- To create a candle: Cut a 3 ½” x 1 ¼” piece of yellow card stock. Place Glue Dots® Glue Lines along one long edge of the card stock. Cut a small triangle of orange card stock and use a Glue Dots® Glue Line to attach it to the short end of the yellow card stock. Roll the yellow card stock up to create a tube (candle), using the long side with adhesive on it to secure the tube.
- Use Craft Glue Dots® to attach the candle in the center of the top layer of the cake.
Customize this project by picking colors that coordinate with your party. You can find honeycomb paper in just about any color (and even some metallic colors). If you have multiple tables to decorate, make smaller cakes to use as centerpieces for your tables. You can also swap out the cake topper (put the celebrants age, add a banner, etc) to match the theme of your party.
