Teacher Gift - Altered Crayon Jar

For Teacher Appreciation last week, Designer Grace turned a mason jar into a decorative holder for a teacher gift.  Here's how she made it.

Time: Approximately 25 minutes
Level: Beginner
Size: H- 3 ½”, Circumference- 10 ¼”

Creating a unique gift for your teacher cannot be easier than this project. All the supplies that you need might even be lying around in your home. Grab a clean jar, some crayons, All Purpose Glue Dots, and you are ready to wow your child’s teacher with this one-of-a-kind gift.

Here's what you need:Altered Jar - Teacher Gift

  • 1" Glue Dots®
  • All Purpose Glue Dots®
  • Recycled food jar
  • Crayons
  • Cardstock
  • Yellow patterned paper
  • Letter stickers
  • Fabric tape
  • Brown twine
  • 1 ¼” Circle punch
  • Scallop circle die and die cut machineTeacher Gift - Altered Jar
  • Scissors

Here's what you do:

  1. Wash and dry the jar.
  2. Measure around the top of the jar. Cut a strip of fabric tape and adhere around the lip of the jar.
  3. Arrange the crayons in a rainbow arrangement (ROYGBIV) and then add some neutral colors at the end. The amount of crayons will depend on how wide your jar is. You can use more than one shade of the initial rainbow colors to make sure there’s enough to go around the jar. For example, instead of just using red, you can also use pink, magenta and other hues of red.
  4. Using All Purpose Glue Dots, adhere the crayons around the outside part of the jar. Use two dots of adhesive, one on the top and one near the bottom to make sure that it’s adhered well.
  5. To make the tag, first create a scallop circle using the die cut and machine. Next, punch out a yellow circle from the patterned paper and adhere to the red cardstock using 1" Glue Lines. Add the stickers to spell out the teacher’s name.
  6. Thread the twine twice through the top hole in the in the scallop circle tag. Wrap it around the jar and tie the ends with ribbon.

What will you be making your teacher for Teacher Appreciation?
